The software now offers a free service for up to 3 GB of storage space, with paid plans starting from $10 per month. Meanwhile, SmugMug, the web host for the popular photography website SmugMug, has just released its own web-based gallery solution, SmugMug Connect.
The first thing you notice when looking at SmugMug Connect is the interface: it’s clean and easy to use. The layout is intuitive and there are plenty of options available for customising your own layout.
There are several ways to add your work to SmugMug Connect: uploading your images directly, via FTP or email, and copying files from your computer or smartphone.
If you upload your images to the site, they’ll be automatically linked to a gallery on your SmugMug account. That way, your images will appear in your profile page, your email and blog and other places on your SmugMug account.
Your gallery can be accessed from anywhere at any time, whether you’re at home or on the go. You can view it on your mobile phone or tablet using your mobile browser.
To create a gallery, you’ll need to have a SmugMug account. Once you have, you can add a new gallery to any of your albums (or sub-albums), which you can access through your profile page. You can also link your social networks to your gallery, so you can share your work easily across the web.
For your first gallery, you can choose from a variety of options and you can create unlimited galleries. The only limit is the amount of storage space you’ve got. Your first gallery starts you off with 2 GB of storage. After that, you can upgrade to 5, 10, 25, 50 or 100 GB of extra storage for each gallery you create.
Once you’ve set up your first gallery, you can begin to add images. To make sure your images are as small as possible, you can compress them before adding them to your gallery.
If you decide to use Zenfolio, you’ll have to first buy your own domain name and configure your hosting. You can also purchase the software directly from Zenfolio, but the advantage of using the free service is that you’ll be able to get started quickly.
Once you’ve done that, you’ll need to register on Zenfolio. You can create a new gallery, upload images to it, and then choose which images should be made available to the public.
Zenfolio comes with a wide range of tools to help you create and manage your gallery: a custom URL, an RSS feed, statistics, email notifications and many more.
After you’ve published your work, you’ll be able to monitor your statistics and view your gallery in your browser.
Zenfolio also supports Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Google+. You can add a short description to each image, tag it, and set it to private or public.
SmugMug Connect allows you to create a gallery and you’ll get a free 1 GB of storage. But, like Zenfolio, you’ll have to sign up for a SmugMug account to use the site.
You can then upload your images, select the size you want to use, set them to private or public and tag them.
Once you’ve finished, you’ll get a URL to use for your gallery. You can then share your work across social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook.
