Secrets for a Perfect Picnic Photoshoot

What do you love most about picnics?

Whether you love to eat and drink outdoors or you’re a vegetarian or vegan, picnics are a fun family event to look forward to. They’re perfect for kids’ birthday parties and you can use your home to create the atmosphere and ambience you like.

Here are some ideas to inspire you:

Make a theme.

Pick a color scheme for the picnic tablecloth, balloons, table settings and tableware. Decorate the picnic baskets and boxes with a map of your favorite places. Consider setting up a make-your-own-sandwich area so your children can experiment and try out new tastes.

Keep the food simple.

You don’t have to serve the ‘perfect’ meal; just put together a selection of tasty snacks and drinks and let your guests do the rest.

Bring a few games.

Play a few rounds of cards, listen to some music, dance, or sing songs together. Keep your kids occupied by letting them run around and play on the grass or sand.

Let the sun shine.

Sunbathing or sunshading tables and chairs is a great way to get all those summer colors onto the walls and other surfaces.

Get creative.

Use props such as a swing set, a trampoline, a slide, and so on. There are many different options to explore.

Go somewhere special.

A beautiful park, a beach, or even your local nature reserve can be a wonderful setting for your next picnic.

Be prepared.

It’s always good to have a plan before a picnic, especially if you are going somewhere new. For example, you can find a map of the area and know exactly where to go. Check the weather forecast and plan your activities accordingly.

Make a checklist.

Don’t forget to pack the sun cream and insect repellent. Bring your camera and memory card, and be prepared to take lots of pictures. You might also bring a notebook or sketch pad for writing down ideas or taking notes. If you don’t mind sharing, ask your friends to bring along their cameras and memory cards, so you can borrow their equipment.

Have a good picnic.

Pack some food you enjoy eating. If you have kids or grandchildren, bring them along and enjoy the day together. If you are photographing children, ask them what they would like to eat, and then choose meals that complement their tastes. If you are photographing a wedding or engagement, think about the dress the couple are wearing and bring along a bottle of matching perfume.

Choose the right place.

Picnics are great when you have the freedom to pick where you want to go. But, before you set off, make sure that you have chosen somewhere safe. Choose somewhere in open countryside, away from busy roads, where there are plenty of trees and a green environment, so you are free to move around. If the place you have chosen isn’t suitable, try somewhere else.

Take your time.

Make the most of every minute. You might not get another chance to enjoy yourself with family and friends for a while. Enjoy your food and drink, take time to relax and listen to the birdsong and the sounds of the countryside.
