A Beginner’s Guide to Using Flickr

Flickr is the world’s biggest online photo sharing community and now it is available for mobile phones. As well as making photos accessible through your smartphone, it has a huge range of features to help you organise, share and showcase your photographs. This guide will help you explore the site and its possibilities and encourage you to start taking photos with your phone.

What is Flickr?

Flickr is the world’s biggest online photo sharing community. It’s a free social network where anyone can upload and share photos, videos and audio files. There are millions of registered users who upload photos on a daily basis.

Users can create their own photo albums, share photos with friends, post comments, and tag photos with keywords. They can also browse and search the millions of pictures already uploaded to Flickr and download them to their computer.

You can share photos online through e-mail and via Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin and more.

If you are interested in using Flickr as a way of sharing photos, the first thing you need to do is set up a free account. You need to do this before you can upload photos, and before you can add other people to your Flickr account. When you are ready, follow these steps to create a new account.

Register a Free Flickr Account

To register for a free Flickr account, go to https://identity.flickr.com/sign-up. Fill in the registration details, including a username and a password. You can choose your username to be whatever you like.

After clicking Create Account, you will see a screen asking you if you want to be automatically sent updates on changes to your account. You will also be taken to your account page, where you can set up your login details. You should keep these details safe, as you won’t be able to access your account unless you have them.

On the account page, you can also choose your privacy settings, and add your email address. If you are adding your email address to your Flickr account for the first time, you will need to verify your email address by clicking the link that appears in the confirmation email you received.

Once you have confirmed your email address, you will be taken to the Flickr homepage. There are two main sections of the homepage. You will be able to browse photos and albums, and you will be able to view the news feed.

If you are browsing your photos, you will see the names of the people in your Flickr circles. If you are viewing an album, you will see the titles of the photos and the names of the people who have shared those photos. If you are viewing the news feed, you will see the most recent activity, including any comments or discussions you have been part of, and the number of people who have visited your account. You can also see who is viewing your photos and who has been viewing your photos. To view a photo, click on it, and you will be taken to the photo’s page. To add a comment, click the arrow to the left of the photo, and you will be asked what type of comment you would like to make. You can add text or a link, and you can choose to add the comment to the person who has uploaded the photo or to the entire album. You can then add other people to your Flickr circle.

How do I use Flickr?

Once you have registered with Flickr and set up a profile page, you can begin uploading your photos and making them publicly viewable.

If you want to make your images private (only you will see them), simply select ‘Private’. However, if you wish to share your photos with other people, you will need to go to your settings page and change your privacy settings to ‘Public’.

To add tags to your images, click on the ‘Tags’ button at the top of the screen. Click on the ‘Create Tag’ button to add a new tag. To delete a tag, simply click on the X next to it.

You can also add a comment to each photo. Simply type in your comment and press ‘Enter’.

You can also ‘like’ or ‘reblog’ photos. To do this, simply hover over a photo, and a small icon with a heart and arrow will appear on the left of the photo. Clicking on the heart will like the photo. Clicking on the arrow will reblog the photo. You can also do this by selecting the ‘Like’ or ‘Reblog’ button on your photo’s details page.

Share your photos

You can share a photo directly from your computer, or you can upload a photo you have taken with your camera phone or digital camera. You can also upload a photo you have found on the internet, such as on Facebook or Twitter. Once you have uploaded a photo, it will appear in your Photo Galleries. If you click on the photo, you will be taken to the page of the photo. You can make your photo private so that it is only visible to you, or you can make it public so that it is visible to everyone.

To make a photo private, click the Private icon, located to the right of the photo. You can make your photo public by clicking the Public icon, also located to the right of the photo. If you make your photo public, you will no longer be able to change its visibility or privacy settings.

When you are ready, click Continue to return to the home page. Click Photos in the menu at the top of the page, and you will see your Photo on your homepage.
