How to Take Great Carnival Ride Pictures

Tips to Shoot Carnival Rides

There’s no question that carnivals are great places to get a photo of the sights and sounds of summer. But how do you capture the atmosphere of these family favorites?

Start early.

The sooner you arrive, the less time you’ll spend waiting around in the hot sun. Take your photo from a distance and make sure it isn’t blurry or out of focus. The best time to shoot is in the late morning.

Be organized.

Make a checklist of all the things you want to take photos of, and have a spare battery, memory card and a tripod handy. Keep in mind that you may have to wait around for quite a while before your subject comes into view. It’s wise to bring plenty of food and drink, to stay hydrated and also have a hand sanitizer with you in case you need to wash your hands.

Plan your shot.

If you are taking photographs of a carnival ride, you can try to capture the whole scene from beginning to end. You will get the best results if you work with a zoom lens. Remember that the lighting conditions will probably be different every day and may change with the position of the sun. Try to shoot wide-angle images at first. This will give you a full view of the scene and you can include things such as the sky or other parts of the scene.

Take lots of photos.

There are few better memories than sharing a fun-filled day with the people you love. So don’t be afraid to take your camera everywhere. Don’t just stick to the rides. Take photos of the sideshow performers, the food, the animals, and the atmosphere. You may even spot some people dressed as characters – they’ll be a great source of inspiration!

Choose a good angle.

Try shooting from the ground up or from high up on the side of the ride. There’s also the option of using a telephoto lens to create some dramatic close ups. You may even get a picture of someone riding the ride with you.

Ask permission.

Before you arrive at the site, make sure you have permission to take photographs from the owner or operator of the ride. You should always ask for permission in writing, although this is not always necessary.

Consider post production.

Once you’ve snapped away, you can use software to edit the photo. Take a close look at your photos on the LCD screen. If they’re blurry, you may need to crop them. Then you can select the best one and add some text.

Use a telephoto lens.

After you have taken a series of wide angle shots, use a telephoto lens (which has a long focal length) to get closer. This means that you can get rid of the background. Zoom in to get an extreme close-up of the subject.

Keep in mind that you may not get the perfect shot the first time you try to take a photo. If you find that the ride is moving too quickly, you may want to wait until it comes to rest. Alternatively, you may want to take a few photos in rapid succession.

Have fun!

It’s always a great idea to relax and have fun when taking pictures. Don’t rush around, take a breather every now and then and enjoy the experience.

Share the image on social media.

Finally, you can share the photos with your friends and family. They’ll be amazed by the range of pictures you can take with just a mobile phone. It’s a great way to get the whole family together for the summer holidays.
