360 degree Product Photography

If you need to create a product image that shows 360 degrees then how do you do it? What are the pros and cons of doing this? How should you approach it? What do you need to get right before you can make your product look good in 360 degrees? We have worked on many 360 products. We have come to appreciate the fact that the best way to capture the true essence of the product is by photographing it in natural light. It helps you achieve a more dynamic, authentic and believable final result. You can also use the same lighting as the final photo, but it is very difficult to find the exact light source in real life. The key points when doing 360 degree product photos are:

1. Location

2. Timing

3. The final image

It may be easy to assume that all you have to do is point the camera at the product and take a photo. But there are so many other factors to consider in order to produce a high-quality 360 photo.

1. Location

There are different ways to photograph a 360 product shot. You can shoot a 360 photo from directly above, directly below, or a combination of both. The most obvious way is shooting from directly above, but if you want to capture your product from every angle and perspective, then you will need to shoot from below too. Shooting from below means you will need to find a location where you can put your subject on a stand. It needs to be tall enough to accommodate for the distance between the product and the camera. Depending on how large your subject is and what it is made of, you may need to adjust the height of the stand accordingly. It could even need to be removed from the floor altogether. If this is the case, then you will need to make sure that there is no sharp edges that may cause injury to yourself or damage to your equipment.

2. Timing

When choosing an ideal location to take your product shots, it is important to think about the light. A well lit location with good lighting for your products will provide you with the best result. When planning your location, consider the time of day and whether you need to use artificial lighting. If you have a lot of products, it may be necessary to use a studio setup. The main consideration here is how much natural light is available. This will determine how quickly you can shoot your product photos. You may also need to consider how you are going to transport your product once you are done shooting. You may not have a truck or lorry to transport your product in. In this case, you will need to think about other ways of moving your product. For example, you could make use of an electric bike or use a shipping container as a transport box. When you start shooting 360 product photos, you may find that it takes longer than expected. It can be frustrating if you can only shoot for an hour but have to wait for half of that time for the sun to set. The important thing to remember is that it’s not about speed, it’s about quality.

3. The final image

As previously mentioned, the most obvious way of shooting 360 product images is by taking a picture from directly above. This technique provides you with the most dynamic and realistic looking final result. However, if you want to show your customer or client the entire product then you will need to take into consideration how far away they are standing and how wide your camera lens is. If you are shooting a large product, you may need to adjust your lens or move closer in order to achieve a larger image that shows the whole product. For example, the picture below was taken with a Canon 5D Mark III camera that has a 180mm lens. If you are shooting from directly above, it means that the subject of the photo is standing directly under the camera. As a result, the subject appears very small. The camera is further away than the subject and therefore, the final photo looks blurry. If we were to move our camera closer, we would be able to get a more detailed view of the product.

When taking photos of larger products, you will need to think about how you can get the best angle for your client. You may need to be on their level, or you could even use a ladder, scaffolding, or even a crane. When shooting from above, you may also need to make sure that the ceiling is not too high for your client. In order to achieve an impressive final result when you shoot 360 product images, it is important to choose a product that is easy to photograph. You may find that some products have very different sides and are difficult to capture from all angles. You will also need to take into consideration how large your product is. The longer you can keep the product still, the easier it will be to take a photo from all angles. This is the case for most camera phones that come with a built in selfie camera.

Have you ever wondered how to capture a 360 degree product photography?

What is 360 degree product photography?

A 360 degree photography is an immersive view of a product that allows viewers to look around the image in any direction without having to rotate the image. This technique is becoming increasingly popular and can be used in many different ways such as website designs, marketing campaigns, video games and virtual reality. To achieve a true 360 degree view of your product, you will need a set of two cameras. A 360 degree camera shoots 360 degree photos by rotating in 3 axis simultaneously. One of the cameras needs to be placed on a tripod to keep it steady while the other can be handheld. The angle of the camera and the distance between the two cameras determine the angle of the shots. In this tutorial we will show you how to take a 360 degree product photography using two GoPro Hero 7 Black edition cameras.

Prepare your environment

First of all, make sure that your environment is well lit, so that you have a good view of your product. You will also need to prepare your cameras, the two cameras should be able to work together. You will need a tripod to hold the camera still during the shooting. It’s best to have a tripod with a ball head to rotate the camera. A steady table or desk can work as a tripod. Another thing you will need is an assistant. They will be needed to hold the camera for you and help you take the photo. To prevent blurry images, it’s better to have two people working together to take the photo.

Set up your cameras

Place one GoPro Hero 7 Black on the tripod and mount it in portrait mode. You can also use the rear screen to see what you are shooting. Turn off any other lights in the room to get only the light from the GoPro Hero

The second camera should be set up on a stable surface and mounted on a ball head. Set the camera to portrait mode. Then place the GoPro Hero 7 into the ball head of the tripod and aim the camera at your product. The viewfinder will automatically adjust for the camera’s angle and the shot will be taken. The two cameras can be as close as you want them to be, but the closer they are, the sharper the photo will be. I

It’s important to keep the cameras at least two feet apart. You can use a remote control to take photos, but this will be very slow and might not work well with the product you are photographing. We recommend shooting with two people who have a steady hand and can take quick shots when needed. Aim the camera in landscape mode and rotate it until you get a good view of your product. The angle of the camera will determine the final view. Make sure the two cameras are close enough together that you can see the whole product in the picture. The distance between the two cameras should also be considered, if the cameras are too far away, the image will be distorted. You can change the distance between the cameras by rotating the ball head.

Shoot

Once you have both cameras ready, turn on the GoPro Hero 7 and turn on the lights. Switch on the camera and mount it on a tripod with a ball head. You can adjust the settings for the GoPro Hero 7 to suit your needs, but make sure that you are shooting in portrait mode so that the viewfinder is facing your product. Start taking photos and make sure to keep the second camera steady at the same time. You can use an assistant to help you or just have one person take photos while the other holds the camera. You can use the rear screen to see the product in the shot. Take the photo and repeat the process for the second set of images.

Fix the images

Once you have finished taking all the photos, turn off the light and the GoPro Hero

You can now import the photos into your editing software to make them look nice and ready for sharing on social media. You can share the photos on your social networks and send them to friends. You can also put the photos on websites and share them on Google Drive or Dropbox. If you want to use the images in other ways, like for example, for a marketing campaign.

 Conclusion

360-degree product photography is the art of taking photographs of products in multiple environments to show the complete functionality of the product from a different angle than a flat image.

It is used in marketing for example to show what a product looks like when used or shown from an angle other than a frontal or top view.

In the world of tech there are various terms for these images; photo-stitching, panoramic, 360, VR and interactive are just some. These are taken with multiple cameras and then stitched together into a single product image.

For a business using these photos it may also include photography of the product and the environment around the product. This can be achieved using a drone or some other remote controlled vehicle.
