If you are photographing a pot of tea that you have just brewed, it’s a good idea to put a small plate in front of the pot to absorb any condensation. If you’re using a camera to capture a picture, take it outside or somewhere that has natural light, but is away from sources of artificial lighting such as windows and street lights. If possible, avoid shooting at a time when the light is changing or there is glare from a window.
You can use a tripod or a monopod, but a monopod is best if you are taking a lot of photographs. If you are taking pictures of teas that have a lot of tiny details (e.g. Darjeeling, Gunpowder) you should use a zoom lens with a maximum aperture of 2.8 or higher, and ideally use a macro lens to reduce the effects of the depth of field. The wider the aperture the greater the depth of field, and the greater the effect of the depth of field on the photograph.
Make sure you clean your tea pot or mug properly before you begin to brew tea. Once you have finished, you can wash the pot with hot soapy water, rinse it thoroughly, and then dry it.
