How to Deal With Duplicate Photos

If you have photos on your phone or computer, it’s likely you have duplicates. Duplicates happen all the time, especially if you use social media sites like Facebook. For example, if you post a photo of you and a friend, there’s a good chance you will see a duplicate. Duplicates are inevitable, but here are some ways to deal with duplicates.

How do I find duplicate photos?

If you are searching for duplicate photos on your computer, make sure that the original is saved in your ‘Pictures’ folder. Next, go to the location where you saved the photo and check if there is a duplicate. If there is, select the duplicate copy, right-click and choose ‘Properties’, then look under ‘General’ tab for the ‘Image location’. Click on the box marked ‘Show image location’. The original picture should now be displayed along with a link to the duplicate.

Check Your Devices

Make sure the duplicates you see are on your devices. This includes phones and laptops. You can check your photos by using the “Find Duplicates” option in your social media app, or by searching for the image on your device. You can delete duplicates from your social media accounts if you prefer.

Go Digital

Use cloud storage, such as Dropbox, Google Drive, or OneDrive. The reason is that these are online locations, so duplicates are likely to happen. So you need to be able to access your files from anywhere.

Delete Duplicates

If you find you have duplicates and you have enough room on your storage, delete them. You can do this from the location where the photos are saved on your computer.

Create a List

If you want to avoid duplicates, make a list of the duplicates you want to keep. This is a useful method if you are uploading photos to a social media account. It helps you avoid duplicates. You can also use the “Find Duplicates” function on your social media app, or search for the photo on your device.
