Canon EOS R
Canon EOS R is an excellent camera and it has a lot of features. The image quality is brilliant.

You can record videos in 4K resolution and there are several other video settings you can adjust. There is a built-in intervalometer, which makes it possible to capture images at different intervals. The built-in image stabiliser is effective and allows you to shoot with confidence at slow shutter speeds, even at very low light levels.
The camera is compatible with Canon’s Dual Pixel AF system. This technology enables the camera to automatically track moving subjects and focus quickly. You can adjust the autofocus speed and the sensitivity to different light levels. The Dual Pixel AF system allows you to switch between manual and AI modes.
Canon has added several innovative features to the EOS R camera. There is the new intelligent IS, which improves the exposure compensation.

Ease of Use
A touchscreen interface is the most obvious difference between the EOS R and other cameras. The interface is divided into four main areas. The left hand side is for the viewfinder, with a live display and a histogram showing your exposure settings. The top half is used to set your picture style and other camera options. On the right-hand side of the display, you can see your photos and adjust settings such as shutter speed and ISO.
The camera interface is similar to other Canon models, but the live view feature is unique. Instead of using a separate monitor, you can take a photo through the viewfinder and it will show up on the screen.
As well as taking pictures with the EOS R, you can also record videos. A small LCD screen displays your shot while the rest of the screen shows your settings. You can change the frame rate and resolution, and there’s a button to start and stop recording.
Although the EOS R doesn’t have a separate viewfinder, it does include an electronic viewfinder which can be turned off by pressing a button on the camera. It works with your smartphone and makes it easier to control the camera remotely.
Build and Design
The Canon EOS R is a compact camera, measuring just 13.8 x 8.2 x 6.9 cm. It’s much smaller than the EOS 70D, which is the EOS R’s predecessor, but larger than a smartphone. It’s made from a plastic body with a metal finish and it weighs around 140g.
The EOS R has a standard DSLR-style control wheel which allows you to access all the camera functions. You’re able to shoot in different modes depending on whether you’re using the viewfinder or electronic viewfinder, but you can also switch between these. The camera is also compatible with wireless remote control devices and smartphones.
The camera has two dials. The one on the right is used to change the focus and the aperture, which you can do from any of the three shooting modes. The left dial allows you to zoom in and out and there’s a button to select your shooting mode.
The body of the camera is not very robust, with a plastic frame which has a tendency to flex when you hold it in certain positions. You’ll want to be careful where you store the EOS R, or if you’re planning on leaving it in a bag or pocket for a long period of time.
Image Quality
The EOS R uses the same 18 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor as the EOS 70D and has a maximum ISO of 3200. This makes it one of the best models in its price range.
It also has a large f/2.8-4.5 lens which has a focal length of 28mm to 112mm. This is equivalent to a 35mm lens, which gives you plenty of flexibility.
It’s a great model for travel photography because it’s compact and lightweight, and has a bright lens. The maximum aperture also means you can get creative with your exposure settings, even at the widest setting.
The lens does have some limitations, however. It produces images with a little softness in the corners and the corners of your image aren’t as sharp as you’d expect from a camera with such a powerful lens.
Another limitation is the lack of a viewfinder. This can be an issue when you’re out and about, so you might want to consider a compact camera like the Panasonic Lumix GX85 if you want to take some decent travel shots.
It’s also worth noting that you won’t be able to take pictures in RAW format. This is fine if you’re shooting for professional reasons, but if you’re after the ultimate in image quality then RAW files could help you make more creative decisions when editing.
Price
At £1,299.00, the Canon EOS R is one of the cheapest models in the Canon EOS lineup. It comes with a one year subscription to Canon’s photo sharing app, allowing you to upload your photos directly to social media sites.
This is one of the best mirrorless cameras, and its price tag makes it ideal for beginners and those who are travelling. It also comes with a 12-32mm kit lens, which is equivalent to a 50-125mm zoom lens. This will cover most travel situations.
However, if you don’t want to leave home without a viewfinder, then you may be better off spending a little more and getting a higher-end model such as the EOS 80D or EOS 80D.
